Application Directions

Step 1 - Cleaner
Included in your paint kit is Hawk Speed Prop Cleaner, a special cleaner and metal conditioner designed to remove grease and contaminants. Use as a pre-treatment for props, shafts, struts and rudders to provide a chemically conditioned surface prior to painting of Hawk Speed Prop Prime and Topcoat.
Directions for Use:
Brush or spray on Hawk Speed Cleaner or saturate a dry rag with Hawk Speed Cleaner to apply to propeller(s) and running gear to etch the properly sanded metal surface. Do not allow the cleaner to dry on the surface. Remove with water and allow time for the water to completely dry before cleaning with denatured alcohol. Be sure all surface contaminents are removed prior to applying Hawk Speed Prop Prime.

Step 2 - Primer
Hawk Speed Prop Prime is a two-component etching primer. This formula goes further, so less coating is needed. It is designed to give the applicator ample time to apply the primer in high temperatures before applying the Topcoat, and dries from a chemical reaction of the mixed components. It provides protection against corrosion and increases the adhesive property of subsequent coats. It is used as a pretreatment primer on non-ferrous metals such as bronze and aluminum, as well as zinc and galvanized iron. May also be used as pre-treatment primer on blast-cleaned steel plates.
Directions for Use:
Agitate before mixing. Make sure all material is thoroughly mixed to ensure the product works properly. Mix Part A and Part B at a ratio of 1:1. Mix thoroughly and allow 5 minutes of induction before applying the product. Brush primer on as thinly and smoothly as possible with a brush or foam roller. Avoid runs, drips or brush marks. After the Hawk Speed Prop Prime has been applied and is tacky (usually 20-30 minutes at 75˚ F), apply the Hawk Speed Topcoat. The application window should not exceed 40 minutes.

Step 3 - Topcoat
Hawk Speed is an environmentally safe long-life foul-release coating that prevents the attachment of marine growth by low critical surface tension. Hawk Speed does not contain toxic substances that might cause environmental pollution. Engines consume less fuel because HawkSpeed reduces hydrodynamic drag, increasing the performance of any vessel. Clean propellers and running gear means less drag. This non-stick coating will prove to dramatically reduce marine fouling attachment and provide long-term protection for your vessel.
Directions for Use: Brush or Roll Only
After the Hawk Speed Prop Prime has been applied and is tacky (usually 20-30 minutes at 75˚ F), apply the Hawk Speed Topcoat. The application window should not exceed 40 minutes. Apply Hawk Speed Topcoat with a brush or roller in an even motion following the curvature of the propeller in the direction the propeller spins. Apply with even strokes. Do not allow dripping or runs. Allow 8 hours to dry before launching.

Removal and Recoating of Hawk Speed
When re-applying HawkSpeed, the following steps should be taken:
Remove all of the old product by sandblasting, sanding, or using a metal scraper, wire wheel or grinder. After all old material is removed, clean the area to be painted with Xylol or Acetone to ensure all silicone is removed. Recoat utilizing current application directions.
