I am restoring a 1976 San Juan 21 sailboat equipped with a swing keel. I am looking for a bottom paint that is fast, and will remain intact on a boat stored on a trailer. I do not need antifouling properties so much, as I need a smooth fast paint to cover some epoxy repairs I have made on the bottom of the boat. I figure I will paint the entire bottom for uniformity. I understand exposed epoxy is very susceptible to UV damage. How many seasons should I get out of this paint if my boat is kept on a trailer? How much paint will I need? Also do you sell a product that will fill minor imperfections on large areas of the bottom?
I think a good solution to meet your needs will be the Revolution by Supermarine. I've included the product link as well as an article link for how to use it. You can use the Supermarine Etching Primer (SM 664) to fill your imperfections as it is a sandable primer and helps form a nice bond. The coverage is based on square footage of area (coverage area found on provided link) and this paint is an oxygen cured paint so it is better to do very thin layers with 2-3 coats. You should get many seasons out of this paint as it isn't an antifouling paint and therefore won't wear away or prevent against algae/barnacles. I think you'll be impressed by the various colors available as well.
Thank you for the recommendation. These products sound ideal for my restoration project. I will try to write back with my results.
