Painting design onto canoe - BleachedPink - 06-10-2013 10:45 PM
I paint wall murals for a living and someone asked me to paint The Dark Side of The Moon prism theme onto his fiberglass canoe. I have just started doing research on how to go about doing this.
So far from what I have gathered, I am thinking the best route to take will be to buy 1 Gal of Yacht Primer, and 1 Gal of Black marine paint.
Then I am not sure what paint to use next: I need 7 additional colors, 6 for the rainbow plus white. I cannot buy a quart of each color, that would be getting WAY too expensive, plus way too much paint for what I need. A pint would probably be the size I need, but I don't think I can buy that small. Would using Rustoleum or some other kind of enamel paint work on top of marine paint?
Then to seal it, I was thinking I could apply a Clear Topcoat over the entire canoe to seal it all together? Or should I carefully apply it over ONLY the Rustoleum paints? I had read something about how you cannot apply Gel coat over anything other than fiberglass, otherwise it will crack or something? Or is that different from Clear Topcoat?
