restore bottom old fiberglass sailboat - Mac 25 - jmczzz - 07-10-2013 02:13 PM
I received the Sea Hawk high build epoxy primer, 2044 reducer and Aerosil in good order. Now I need advice on proper application.
The bottom has many years of dry ablative bottom paint, thick and cracked in places, rubbed completely off in other places, gel coat inside the swing keel trunk opening.
My plan is to sand bottom with 60 then 80 grit to get all old paint off where needed, sand w/ 80 grit lightly where there seems to be no paint left and inside the keel trunk opening. Pressure Wash with detergent and rinse, wipe clean with rags and S.H 2044 Reducer. then paint 1st using Sea Hawk high build epoxy primer with Aerosil mix in places that need some fairing, second coat with just the primer to seal.
The boat will spend most of summer in fresh water lake, but will be trailer-ed to salt water for fall and winter. I will need more advice when I get to the actual bottom paint step.
Please give me any advice or comments,
thanks, jmczzz James
