Sealer for aluminum boat?
I am looking for paint and/or sealant for my boat. Is is an old aluminum boat put together with rivets. The rivets have become loosened and leak. Can you recommend the best paint and/or sealant, and the best method to apply. Thanks.

Check out our Tuff Stuff high build epoxy primer. It is a primer that can be left bare but can only be applied to the bare aluminum surface. It is the best thing we offer to aid in sealing rivets/seams and protecting against corrosion.

I have included the product link which offers instructions for application as well.

Do I have the right paint?
I have purchased Sea Hawk Tuff Stuff two part epoxy primer and AF33 anti-fouling paint.
I want to bottom paint my aluminum john boat. Is this the proper primer?
I have also purchased Sea Hawk Outdrive paint. Is this the right paint for a boat that is sometimes in and sometimes out of the water. Is this paint affected by being out of the water?

RE: Sealer for aluminum boat?
The primer is right...but you should not really use a copper base paint (AF-33) on an aluminum boat. Copper will react with the aluminum causing pitting and corrosion.

If you do use the Tuff Stuff and AF-33 combination, be sure to put on at least 4 coats of Tuff Stuff primer. That will help insulate the copper based bottom paint from the aluminum.

Otherwise, change the paint that you are using to Mission Bay (for fresh water) or Smart Solution for salt/brackish water. That way you have no worries of corrosion.

All the paints mentioned above are good for going in and out of the water.

The outdrive paint will work good too, but if you are going to use Mission Bay or Smart Solution, either of these can be used on the outdrive too. (Just not AF-33!)

Hope this helps!
