RE: recoat time
When you apply the second coat you should wait a couple of hours in between coats..no longer than 3 hours...and be sure not to use the wax additive in the 1st coat.

No maximum if you sand in between coats.

RE: recoat time
I plan on using a preval sprayer for applying the gelcoat. I'll use a patch aid to thin the gel and it is my understanding that the patch aid has the necessary wax without having to apply more wax additives. I'm confused about building up the layers of gel and thought that spraying one light coat after another with maybe a minute wait between coats was all that was necesary to build up the layers without having to wait for the gel to dry and sand between coats??

The patch aid is the best thing out there for a nice application but since it does include the wax it would make it necessary to sand/clean gelcoat in between coats. That can be avoided by just adding the patch aid to the final coat.

RE: recoat time
Since I'm making light passes with that preval sprayer and I'm not using the wax additive in any of those passes, I would think that my final pass with the patch aid added would not be of sufficient thickness to aid in the curing. In other words, does that final very thin coat of gel containing the patch aid have sufficient wax to block the air? Thanks.
