Do I have the right paint?
I have purchased Sea Hawk Tuff Stuff two part epoxy primer and AF33 anti-fouling paint.
I want to bottom paint my aluminum john boat. Is this the proper primer?
I have also purchased Sea Hawk Outdrive paint. Is this the right paint for a boat that is sometimes in and sometimes out of the water. Is this paint affected by being out of the water?

This primer is an excellent choice for bare aluminum; it shouldn’t be applied over paint. The AF 33 is good bottom paint but shouldn’t be used on aluminum since it is copper based and will have a chemical reaction with the aluminum. You’ll want either the Smart Solution (salt water) or Mission Bay (fresh/brackish water) for your aluminum.

The outdrive paint is safe for metal and perfect for boats in and out of the water. This as well as the paints above are ablative bottom paints that when hauled out the paint can oxidize but when dropped back in a new layer of paint is exposed for protection. This type of paint wears away over time to keep all the growth off your boat.

I have included the product links for the aluminum safe bottom paints for your convenience.
