 |
Sea Hawk Marine Polyester Resin is a premium quality universal repair material used with fibergalss cloth that produces a hard, durable and permanent plastic finish. It is specifically designed for use of soft woods, metal, and fiberglass. It is not intended and should not be used on redwood, cedar, oak, or other close grain woods or on styrofoam. Marine uses include cabins, decks, hulls, skis, and tanks. Auto use includes fiberglass trailers, Recreational Vehicles, and truck bodies.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Clean surface with Sea Hawk Wax N Grease Killer. All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from grease, wax, oil, and other foreign matter. All surfaces must be sanded. Do not apply directly over paint.
RESIN PREPARATION
Shake and stir container thoroughly before using. Mix 12 drops of hardener per ounce of Resin (10cc per quart / 40cc per gallon). Resin will begin to gel in approximately 30 minutes at 77 F. In warmer temperatures (90 F) reduce hardener by 50%. In cooler temperatures (65 F) increase hardener content 100%. Resin may not thoroughly cure if applied in temperatures below 60 F. Excessive heat will be generated when adding additional hardener to speed up gel time. This can cause hariline stress cracks.

How much marine resin do you need?
For Chopped Strand Mat (CSM):
.75 OZ = Tears and forms easily for contoured or light duty applications.
Resin requirements for .75 OZ mat.
50"" - Needs approx. 16oz Marine Polyester Resin per yard
1.5 OZ =Most commonly used mat for mold and boat building applications as well as automotive part construction.
Resin requirements for 1.5 oz mat:
50"" - Needs approx. 32oz Marine Polyester Resin per yard
The general rule for chopped stand mat is 1.5 to two times the weight in resin to the weight of mat. For 1.5 ounce chopped strand mat you will need 3 to 4 ounces per SQUARE FOOT. For 2.0 ounce chopped strand mat you will need 4 to 5 ounces per SQUARE FOOT. There are about 150 ounces or resin by weight per gallon. Example: 10 square yards of chopped strand mat is 90 square feet. 90 x 4 = 360 oz. 360 oz of mat divided by 150 oz per gallon gives you 2.4 gallons.
