A fairing compound such as Epoxy resin can be used to fill in divots or gouges and then be sanded to a smooth finish. This restores the surface to its original shape and also prepares it for painting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Before attempting a repair by yourself, get a professional opinion. Always wears Personal Protective Equipment when sanding or working with chemical compounds!<\/p>\n<p>Here are some guidelines to fairing out imperfections in your hull:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Sand all loose surface debris and hard edges.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1413 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bottompaintstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/f5-filler-large-may-2014.jpg\" alt=\"f5-filler-large-may-2014\" width=\"153\" height=\"155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bottompaintstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/f5-filler-large-may-2014.jpg 152w, https:\/\/www.bottompaintstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/f5-filler-large-may-2014-22x22.jpg 22w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 153px) 100vw, 153px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Rid surface of debris with clean cloth.<\/li>\n<li>Wet out surface with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bottompaintstore.com\/fiberglass-and-gel-coat-repair-hawk-epoxy-resin-system-c-13581_14066.html\/hawk-epoxy-size-1-kit-p-28223.html\">Hawk Epoxy<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Mix another batch of Hawk Epoxy with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bottompaintstore.com\/fiberglass-and-gel-coat-repair-hawk-epoxy-resin-system-c-13581_14066.html\/hawk-epoxy-light-density-fairing-filler-f5-4oz-p-28254.html\">F5 Light Density Filler<\/a> and apply to repair area.<\/li>\n<li>Use long strokes to spread out filler compound over the damaged hull. Apply until the mixture is slightly raised above the hull surface. Make sure the compound extends beyond the repair area.<\/li>\n<li>Let cure 6 hours.<\/li>\n<li>Add skim coat of F5 Filler \/ Epoxy compound to achieve a very smooth surface.
