Preparation Cetol® Marine Gloss is a gloss topcoat that can only be applied on top of a minimum of 2 coats of Cetol® Marine, Cetol® Marine Light or Cetol® Marine Natural Teak.
Method The wood moisture content should be below 18%. Apply liberally using a long-haired bristle
brush, smoothly, in the direction of the grain. Keep a wet edge to prevent lap marks and thoroughly saturate end grains where possible. Apply 2-3 coats of Cetol® Marine Gloss. Always allow 24 hours drying time in between coats. Sanding between coats is not recommended as this will result in a reduction of dry film thickness. Recommended film thickness must be applied to ensure effective product performance. Apply all coats within 1-2 weeks.
Make regular inspections to all coated areas. Problem areas should be attended to immediately
and maintenance coats should be routinely applied. If the coating is allowed to weather beyond
the regular maintenance period of 1 year, returning this surface to excellent condition will be more difficult. Before application of a maintenance coat of Cetol® Marine Gloss, clean the surface with Interlux® All Purpose Boat Soap to remove any surface contaminants as per instructions on label. If blue fungi or mildew are present then they can be treated with Interlux Premium Teak Restorer with a nylon scruffing pad as per instructions on label. Rinse with fresh water and allow to dry. Sand lightly with 220-320 (grade) grit paper. After sanding, wipe with Interlux Special Thinner 216 and let to dry thoroughly prior to the application of the maintenance coat of Cetol® Marine Gloss. Cetol® Gloss is not suitable for use on immersed areas.

In the long run, having experimented with many types of varnish for more than 40 years, Cetol Gloss is longer lasting than anything. It needs an undercoat of Cetol natural teak for UV blocking to make it last even longer. Extremely easy to apply but does require sanding old coats. I can get almost 1...0 years out of it if I sand with 220 once a year and apply two top coats. Initial application requires very clean, stripped and sanded teak with a base coat of "Natural Teak Cetol" 50% diluted by mineral spirits (despite what manufacturer says) followed by 25% diluted coat followed by two top coats of gloss. Then each year sand and redo at least one top coat of gloss.
